Parweld PPE History

Parweld has specialised in high-quality PPE and safety products since the turn of the 2000 Millennium, continually advancing protection across welding, cutting, grinding, and general industrial sectors throughout the 21st century. The company’s early innovation in head protection saw the launch of the original XR913H auto-darkening helmet, which established the foundation for the precision XR helmet series. Between 2013 and 2015, Parweld added vibrant design options to the range with models like the XR915H and XR916H, while rapidly diversifying its wider safety offering. This expansion introduced Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) systems, respiratory face masks, protective spectacles and goggles, specialist gripper gloves, durable footwear, and industrial workwear.

To cater to more demanding environments, Parweld launched the premium Panther PPE brand in 2012, tailored specifically for heavy-duty protection. The Parweld WT1222 Welding Tent is a mobile, foldaway multi-purpose site shelter designed to create a safe, fully enclosed working enclosure for on-site fabrication, maintenance, and utility work. Measuring 2m × 2m × 2m, the unit is constructed around a corrosion-resistant, zinc-plated tubular steel frame paired with a heavy-duty, flame-retardant reinforced PVC cover and canvas cladding. Fully compliant with BS EN ISO 25980:2014, the tent effectively blocks hazardous arc flash and UV/IR radiation to safeguard surrounding non-welding personnel and pass-by site workers. Designed for maximum operational practicality, it features toggle-corded access openings on two opposing sides for easy entry of workers, heavy tools, or pipework, while simultaneously offering reliable weather protection against wind and rain in outdoor work environments.

Safety Standards

Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (as assimilated into UK law) sets out the essential health and safety requirements that must be met before PPE products can be placed on the EU and GB market. The purpose of the legislation is to ensure safe and effective products are placed on the market by requiring manufacturers to show how their products meet the ‘essential health and safety requirements’. The Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018 provide a system for the enforcement of the 2016 Regulation in the UK and the EU Regulation on Market Surveillance 2019/1020 enforces it within the EU and NI.

EN 388 is the European standard used to assess protective gloves against mechanical risks, providing a clear performance rating for abrasion, blade cut, tear, puncture and, where applicable, impact protection. Each glove is marked with a pictogram followed by a series of numbers and letters that indicate its performance levels in these tests, helping users quickly understand the level of protection offered.

EN ISO 13997 TDM cut test for more accurate cut-resistance assessment, ensuring gloves are correctly matched to real-world hazards. Overall, the standard gives manufacturers and users a consistent, reliable way to evaluate mechanical protection and select the right glove for the job.

This standard tests 6 separate mechanical performance measures of a glove, namely: abrasion resistance, blade cut resistance, tear resistance, puncture resistance, TDM cut resistance, and impact protection. Criteria A–D are mandatory, E & F are optional tests, and there are two methods for testing cut resistance (B: Circular disc method, or E: TDM Cut straight blade).

Impact Resistance

An optional test based on the mean transmitted force. Testing is carried out in accordance with EN 13594:2015 6.9 protective gloves for motorcycle riders. If a glove meets this requirement, a ‘P’ is added as the last digit to the glove marking.

EN 407 is the European standard that defines the testing and performance requirements for gloves designed to protect against thermal risks such as heat, flames, and molten metal. It evaluates six key hazards with each test rated on a scale from 0 to 4, where higher scores indicate stronger protection. This standard specifies thermal performance for protective gloves against heat and/or fire. The nature and degree of protection is shown by a series of six performance level ratings.

Resistance to Flammability

Based on the length of time the material continues to burn and glow after the source of ignition is removed. The seams of the glove shall not come apart after an ignition time of 15 seconds.

Resistance to Contact Heat

Based on the temperature range (100–500°C) at which the user will feel no pain for at least 15 seconds. If an EN level 3 or higher is obtained, the product shall record at least EN level 3 in the flammability test. Otherwise, the maximum contact heat level shall be reported as level 2.

Resistance to Convective Heat

Based on the length of time the glove is able to delay the transfer of heat from a flame. A performance level shall only be mentioned if a performance level of 3 or 4 is obtained in the flammability test.

Defines the safety and performance requirements for welding gloves, combining the mechanical protection tests of EN 388:2016+A1:2018 and EN ISO 21420:2020+A1:2024 with the thermal protection requirements of EN 407 to ensure reliable defence against heat, sparks, molten metal, and mechanical hazards.

  • Type A: Offers higher heat and mechanical protection for heavier welding tasks.
  • Type B: Provides greater dexterity for precision work such as TIG welding.

The core European standard that defines general requirements for all protective gloves, ensuring they are safe, comfortable, and fit for purpose across all PPE categories. It sets out essential criteria for glove design and construction, material innocuousness, sizing, dexterity, and user documentation.

Ensures materials do not release harmful substances—such as excessive chromium VI, nickel, azo dyes, DMFa, or PAHs—and that gloves allow natural hand movement. It also introduces mandatory manufacturing dates and clear user instructions.
